Conversations under the Tree

A Mind Open to Others and to the World
23 Apr – 17 Oct 2025

One theme for two days of intellectual delight with exceptional guests.

Three lectures, a round table, informal discussion sessions, a meeting with an artist, a visit to the Estate's exhibitions and a book signing, all in the green comfort of an arts and nature hotel.

Come and listen to and talk with figures from culture, the arts and the sciences.

In 2023, the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire created its Centre for Reflection on Arts and Nature. For more than 15 years, the institution has been pursuing an original cultural adventure linked to heritage, art, gardens and landscape. The time has come to give voice to the convictions and commitments that underpin the Estate's work.

For those who are stimulated by the exchange of ideas and points of view, the Estate has devised the Conversations sous l’arbre, a series of encounters with figures from the world of art and thought. Authors, scientists, artists, philosophers and landscape architects will come to present and share their vision of the world, as well as convivial moments.

Conceived with a view to passing on knowledge and experience, these gatherings complement and echo the Estate’s events. The Conversations sous l’arbre have just one aim: to set thought in motion in an inspiring and open setting.

Two days to reflect on nature

Participants are welcomed on Thursday or Friday in the late morning. Time is set aside to settle in at the Bois des Chambres . The opening of the Conversations sous l’arbre is celebrated in a convivial spirit with a shared lunch. At 14:30, a first speaker is invited to take the floor, followed by a discussion. A mid-afternoon break is followed by a second talk and a discovery of the Estate’s exhibitions. At nightfall, dinner is served at the Grand Chaume. The next day, the third Conversation begins at 9:30 and gives way to a meeting with an artist at 11:00. The early afternoon is devoted to a round table bringing together the guests and participants. A book signing follows. Les Conversations sous l’arbre then come to a close over light refreshments.
