Colour attracts, warns, conceals. It bursts across the surface of butterfly wings, magnifies flower petals, takes hold of tree bark and transforms certain foliage as the seasons pass. But what do we really see when we look at a colour? Is it a property of things, a physical phenomenon, a mental construct or a sensory experience? From plant pigments to animal strategies of camouflage or seduction, from scientific theories of light to symbolic and artistic imaginations, the Conversations under the Tree invite us to explore colour as a relational phenomenon. For each species perceives the world according to its own sensory capacities, giving rise to a plurality of perceptual worlds. Between science, philosophy, ecology and creation, come and discover how colours silently shape our relationship with the living world.
