Climate disruption and the degradation of the living world are the phenomena that many regions of the globe now face. Fragility, imbalance and uncertainty are today at the heart of our concerns and mean that each of us must adapt to a changing climate, minimising the harmful effects of high temperatures, rethinking our behaviour, combating heat islands and using new or traditional solutions in the face of the growing scarcity of shade and water. Sobriety, self-sufficiency through permaculture, reforestation, urban greening... everything must be done to strengthen the resilience of nature, to anticipate, repair and reduce vulnerabilities.
Taking up the theme of the 2023 edition of the International Garden Festival, the Conversations sous l’arbre examine the concept of resilience extended to nature. This capacity of a person or a community to adapt and recover after a traumatic event, such as an illness, an accident, a conflict or a bereavement, involves finding ways to overcome obstacles and to innovate in order to restore balance. Ecological resilience is the capacity of an ecosystem to withstand disturbances or stresses, climate change, pollution, urban encroachment or natural disasters, and to restore its biodiversity and its vital functions.
